Step-by-Step Appeal Process

1

Do not ignore it

Whether council or private, ignoring the ticket can lead to escalation. Note the deadline for the discounted payment and the appeal deadline.

2

Gather evidence

Take photos of signage, road markings, your parking position, and the ticket itself. Note dates, times, and any witnesses.

3

Make an informal challenge or appeal

Write to the issuing authority within 14 days. Use our templates below. The 14-day discount period is usually frozen during this process.

4

Formal appeal if rejected

Council: formal representation to the council, then to an independent adjudicator. Private: appeal to POPLA (BPA members) or IAS (IPC members). These are free.

5

Adjudicator decision is final

If the independent adjudicator finds in your favour, the ticket is cancelled. For private charges, the operator must accept the decision.
